Concerned re dirty nappies

Ds s 7 weeks old, and for a while he was going about 4-5 days between dirty nap pies, which I had read was normal for a n ebf baby. However, for the past week he has been producing at least one dirty nappy a day. I don't think he has diarrhea as it is the same consistency it has always been and the same mustardy colour and smell normal.

The health visitor said me eating spicy food, onions, broccoli and cauliflower could have this effect, and I have had all of these recently so it could be that, also he has been waking more frequently at night, so not sure if he is having a bit of a growth spurt? Should I be worried about this change of pattern?

It seems to change a lot. If he's happy, healthy and gaining weight, don't worry about it!

I think your HV is talking absolute rot but unfortunately I don't have any reliable sources to quote.

Wonder if your HV does?

Like japhrimel says, they do seem to vary their pooing patterns, it doesn't sound like there's a problem to me, FWIW. I think everyone is normally more concerned about wet nappies than dirty ones.

Has he been feeding more in the last week? Sometime when they are going through a growth spurt they feed more and so more passes through. Perfectly normal though, my DDcan go a week between poos then do one every feed for a while.

Your hv is sadly misinformed - none of the foods you mention are worth worrying about, your baby's poos and frequency is perfectly normal and almost certainly unrelated to anything you are eating, and babies do change their waking/sleeping pattern.

All seems well from what you say :)

Teething, colds, and medications (eg. calpol) are also things I've noticed that seem to make DD poo more.

As their internals grow and change their bowel movements do too. Likewise their sleeping patterns change a lot.
This is not something you need to worry about (tho it is stressful at times!)...your HV response is one of the reasons I always take their info with a grain of salt.
What is normal for one child is not normal for others.
However, if you notice a continued change (months long) in sleep which is just not good, and your child is continually in discomfort and unhappy (even during the waking hours) then yes, you might need to do some research, and find out about what changes you may need to make to your diet.
