What can I do to make BF DS poo?

For quite a while DS has only been going every 7-10 days. It was ok, but today he's on Day 7 and he's really miserable and uncomfortable.

I've tried bicycle legs and rubbing his tum but it's not helping.

We had a bad night because of it and he's been grouchy all day. I'm at the end of my tether and I really don't want a bad/even worse night tonight.

Oh, he's 5 months.

Thanks for any ideas!

He's been screaming solidly since he woke from his nap (90 mins) :( he won't feed. I can't do anything to make him stop :(

Give him a bath, they always poo as soon as you lift them out!

If extra feeds, tummy massage (only ever in a clockwise direction-the direction waste travels through the gut) and bicycle legs aren't working you could offer cooled boiled water or go to the GP.

What is his poo like when it comes out?

Bath doesn't work for him either.

I'll try cooled boiled water, thanks.

It's normally yellow and soft, but not really runny. Goodness knows what this one will be like.

If it's soft and pretty liquid I would say he isn't suffering constipation. If it were dry or like rabbit pellets then he's deffo got constipation.

It's absolutely fine and usual for some BFed babies to not poo for a week (or sometimes more) at a time, breastmilk is very pure and is very easily digested, there is little waste product at the end.

So long as he has plenty of wet nappies, is not in any pain or discomfort and when he does go it's soft then there's not much to worry about.

The fact he is in discomfort is an issue. I would see how the water goes but don't hold back from seeing your HV/GP if it has no effect. Technically BFed babies don't need water, BM has all they need.

Previously it's been mainly soft with some pellets in it.

I wasn't worried before, but then he wasn't in pain before.

He's still peeing fine.

Thanks very much!
