Aptamil and a funny reaction - sound familiar?

Help!

My DS is 7.5 months old, EBF, and now on 3 hefty meals a day, with 3 - 4 milk feeds in the day, too, though seems close to dropping one very soon.

He is a frequent waker at night, so DP and I decided to offer him formula - Aptamil Follow-On - at his 11pm feed. He was waking for boob anyway, and I really needed a break, plus he'll be moving on to formula by the end of April, so we thought this would help him to get used to the taste.

All was going well - he was taking the bottle, still waking a bit, but I had got him down to one bf in the night, so we were then going to slowly reduce the formula and see if he would sleep through that feed.

BUT - he seems to have had a reaction to the formula. For the last 4 days he has been having around 4 - 6 poos a day, and as a result his bum is a bit sore. He seems fine, though, appetite normal!

We tried a different brand but he didn't like it. I thought his bum seemed a bit better the next day but it was hard to be sure for certain.

Anybody else had this happen? Would you persevere until he got used to it? Would you switch? Should I be worried that he's not absorbing all of his nutrients etc?

Should I switch to Stage 1 milk???

Help, help, help!!!

I would try the first milk - not need to use follow on at all, it's just a marketing gimmick. I wonder if al the extra iron in it could upset his tummy?

Thanks, Rita, that's a really good point, I'll switch to the first tomorrow, see if that makes a difference.

Never knew that about it being a marketing gimmick - I feel like such a schmuck.

They only invented follow-on formula because it's illegal to advertise milk for babies under 6 months - hence all the brands come up with a special milk for 6+ months and they can can their name on TV.

Is he teething? And it's just a ff coincidence?
I only suggest thus as when ds is teething we have lots more poops which lead to a sore bum. He was an Aptamil boy and never had that problem.
