Blocked duct?

I have been ebf my six month old. She is now on three meals a day and doing really well with the food.

However I keep on getting a blocked duct. Each time its the same side and the same place. This is the fourth or fifth time I've had it and wondered if anyone had any tips on how to avoid it again. Felt like I'd been stabbed yesterday but has calmed down now. Any suggestions? Thanks!

not sure if it'll work for you, but once every couple of days, do a feed where your dd's chin is in the direction of the problem area. If it's at the top of your boob, this may mean she is lying down and you dangle your boob into her mouth with her chin in the direction of the place where you get the blocked duct. We call this BFing acrobatics in our house Grin. This really helps to keep that area well drained. I've got a similar problem area to what you've described and it has been working for me. hth

Oh god, I had this, too. it was soo annoying. I never really figured out why it happened. I got rid of it by massaging while feeding and having a bath/shower before hand. Also, ibuprofen gel on it after feeding really helped, too.

I think mine may have been linked to baby starting solids and drinking less at each boob feed - it has got a lot better now (8 months).

Have you considered your bra, clothing, seatbelt, bag strap and how you sleep (all ways I've got blocked ducts!)?

Never solved the problem. Happened to me every time I ovulated. Exactly the same place. All I could do was unblock it every time.
