chuck formula after 4 weeks?

Do people really chuck out the formula after its been open 4 weeks?

We only really use a couple of ounces for breakfast and the odd bottle as dd2 is still mostly breast fed. She's 8 months. Its so expensive, I'm wondering if I really need to chuck out half an unused box...

Maybe you'd be better just using cow's milk for breakfast and ready made cartons for the odd bottle.

may be cheaper to buy cartons then.. much less faff and safer as it's sterile. You can buy about 12-14 small cartons for the price of box, so if you would use less than that (ie one every other day or less) it could work out cheaper. I personally would chuck out unused powder after 4 weeks if I used it as I don't think it's worth the risk. Just like I wouldn't use meat that was past it's use by date.

Not worth the risk. We used cartons when DD was having relatively small amounts for top-ups. Saves faffing with getting hot enough water too.

Goosey, the NHS released new guidelines on 24 Feb, you can see them here.

Agree with the others though, just use full fat cow's milk in her food and cartons for the odd bottle.
