Is DD hydrated enough?

DD is coming up for six months of age. She now tends to only feed for couple of minutes during the day and she is easily distracted. I started to wonder about dehydration as her nappies have not been as wet as they usually are.

Both her bottom teeth are coming through so wondered if it was a bit painful for her to feed.

I offer the breast all the time and I think I'm finding it hard to adjust to these quick feeds! I enjoyed sitting around for ages breastfeeding but now I have to entertain an inquisitive baby as she can't quite sit up unaided yet.

She maybe only feeds for about 2-5 minutes on the one boob. Is this normal?

Has she gone up a size in nappies or changed brands? Is the wee still colourless or pale straw colour or is it dark/bright yellow/ochre? Is she on solids or EBF?

I found that when we went from size 3 in the newborn nappies to size 3 in ordinary they seemed less wet even though they weren't IYSWIM (that was at about 5 months for DD3!).

At 6 months there is no harm giving a cup with water in it.

However, the longer you feed, the more efficient a baby gets at feeding. She is more than likely getting all she needs from you. However...

Breastmilk should be the main source of nutrition for the first year, so make sure that the breast is offered before solids. This might help too.
