Weird breastfeeding sensations...

Does anyone else get the following?

When I drink water, I feel funny tingling sensations in my nipples with each gulp, as if the water is going straight to them! Same thing happens when I yawn?!

Also, when I go outside in the cold my nipples really hurt- this never happened before...

Or is it just me?

The reaction to the cold sounds like Raynaud's Syndrome - do you have that generally? (extremities discolour in the cold, they go white and then blue)

The general fix is to avoid caffeine and dress up warm. (Oh, and don't smoke.)

I don't know about the reaction to drinking water - is the water cold? Could it be a reaction to the cold rather than the water?

Could potentially be thrush, though I would have thought you might have pain at other times by now that you would have noticed before the cold affecting you. When I had bad thrush going into the cold was agony, and drinking a cold drink had a similar effect. With thrsh you might start getting pain as a feed progresses or even after the feed has finished, and pain lingering after you've finished a feed.

Have a read around about thrush symptoms and if you think you might have it treat it as soon as possible, it can be a bugger to shift once it takes hold!

Thanks. Flowery, one nipple is a bit sore after a feed but I don't have other thrush symptoms - no white patches in ds's mouth, for example. I do have some clotrimazole cream from when I got thrush in my stitches a month ago- would it be wise to use this or do I need to see doc?

Dunno about the water thing, but I used to get that reaction to the cold. I think it was shortly after DS was born, although it could have been when I was pg. I don't get it now though.

I'm no medical expert so maybe it might be worth asking a pharmacist about if you can use the cream you have already. I was given Canisten cream (same as for thrush 'down there') first, then daktarin (like for atheletes foot, lovely!) when the canisten didn't work, though apparerently the canisten is usually more effective (and niether made much difference for me).

Oh, and although I'm pretty sure my DS got the thrush first and I caught it off him, his got better fairly quickly and I still had it for ages with him having no symptoms at all. It's very easy to pass back and forth but my DS didn't seem to ever get it back from me so I guess you could have it without your LO having it.
