How long to let 6 week old sleep ?

Probably a daft question (neurotic first timer here) but here goes.
How long should I let my six week old EBF DD sleep overnight ?
Last night I lost my nerve after she had been asleep for seven hours and woke her for a feed at 4am.
She feeds every 2-3 hours during the day up until about 9pm. I just think six weeks is very young to be going that long without feeding - or should I just count myself lucky?
Would be grateful for any advice/opinions !

If she is gaining weight, pooing and weeing lots, feeding lots in the day and happy and alert when awake, I'd enjoy the sleep!

You may have one of those rare babies that sleeps through Grin

Your baby needs to have a word with mine. You are very lucky!

Rita - She is weeing and pooing for England, feeds well and weight gain is fine. She is a happy and alert when awake, she just seems to like her sleep ! Just didn't have the nerve to let her go beyond 7 hours !

doblet - I know I'm lucky so far, just hope it doesn't go to pot just yet ! Smile

Let her sleep! I didn't get a stretch like that out of DS until he was 11 weeks old, and that only lasted about 5 weeks and then he was back to waking loads when his sleep regressed at 4 months.

Enjoy it while it lasts Grin

Alibaba - I think I will try and do that. Surely she will wake up if she's really hungry ?

Yes she will. :)

If she was lethargic, or there was a lack of wet and dirty nappies, or weight gain was a problem then I would say you were right to wake her - but she sounds in perfect health so there is no reason to worry about how long you leave her to sleep overnight.

I hope you get another good night tonight!

Thank you alibaba - tonight she woke herself after seven and a half hours, so I am feeling much more reassured. Smile
