Had one period since dd3 (20weeks)was born, that was about 7 weeks ago. Is it normal for them to be erratic at first or is it because she has upped her feeds considerably?

NinkyNonker · 27/02/2011 20:08

mrspear · 27/02/2011 20:09

well my ds is 16 months and i am still awaiting their return! btw i am 30 in April

bebemooneedsabreak · 27/02/2011 20:11

aye, your hormones are all over the place. It's like being a teenager again! (but not as much fun)

Basically the bf can interfere with the 'period' hormones, but if the bf is not timely then you can ovulate and then have a period, then if the bf gets back on track it'll interfere again....

nymphadora · 27/02/2011 20:11

I read somewhere that only 7% women get periods back before 6months when ebf. Im in that every time :(

I've heard of a lot of people getting a random period and then for months.

7% is actually quite a large number, it's one in every 15 people. Doesn't stop us feeling cheated though Grin

I had the PMT migraine, then the stroppy build up then... 2 weeks ago!

My little one is 14 months & i've yet to ovulate or have a period. I also haven't been able to stop eating like a horse since i've been pregnant or breastfeeding!

I've recently dropped the day feeds & only feed once after bath time & once at around 3.30am - 4.30am so maybe something will happen soon....

LostInTransmogrification · 28/02/2011 07:06

My DS is 9 months now, bf but weaning started 3 months ago so not on as much milk. I ovulated (with no periods) last year but had a very early miscarriage in December and have just started my first period (including spots and strops). Not much blood at all considering EPU said it would be a lot heavier.

Curlysoo · 28/02/2011 21:41

Please excuse my ignorance Blush, how do you know that you are ovulating if you are not having a period?

I still feed my 12 month old son morning, night and perhaps once through the day (he will not entertain the idea of follow on milk or even cows milk so far!). I have yet to have a period which I understand is because of the breastfeeding but my husband and I are trying to have another baby but without a period I have no idea where I am in my cycle - it's costing me a fortune in pregnancy tests. My health visitor has simply suggested taking my temperature.

Apologies if this is a ridiculous question.

NinkyNonker · 01/03/2011 18:01

I'm interested too CurlySoo!

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 01/03/2011 18:08

I EBF DS. My periods returned at 6 weeks pp. Less than 2 weeks after my lochia stopped. They have been clockwork since.
Am very Envy of some of you... Grin

PumpkinBeans · 01/03/2011 19:50

I know if I am ovulating because I have a distinct change in discharge & I feel extrememly fruity!

However I think I am in a minority of women who are incredibly sensitive to their hormones including feeling suicidle & having panic attacks just before each period.

Georgimama · 01/03/2011 19:54

After my post partum bleeding stopped at about six weeks I didn't have another period until DS was 10 months old, which coincided with dropping a couple of the breastfeeds.

Curlysoo if you google natural contraception or rhythm method you should find some info about temperature changes and (TMI alert) discharge/mucus changes throughout the month - obviously you would be observing these changes for the opposite purpose!

LostInTransmogrification · 01/03/2011 19:59

Pumpkinbeans - I am the same, I know my period is due because I start thinking terrible things have happened to my family. It comes right out of the blue, one minute happily walking the dog, next minute thinking that I haven't spoken to my brother for a while so he must have been in a crash! Happens exactly 7 days before my next period!

PumpkinBeans · 01/03/2011 20:13

Wow - thats freaky isn't it. Thats one part of my cycle that I don't miss! Down to two short feeds in 24 hrs now so I think it will all be back soon....

PlasticLentilWeaver · 01/03/2011 21:51

You're definitely not pregnant are you? First cycle after periods return, fertility is often much higher than average.

Curlysoo · 01/03/2011 21:55

Thanks ladies, I never thought that I would miss my periods because they have always been horrendous and almost debilitating at times but I guess they were a sign that everything was in working order. I had the post partum bleeding for around 6 weeks too but then that's it and I don't have any discharge either but I think I've been having very slight cramps which could be like period pains. I am trying to cut down on the bubba's feeds but it's proving difficult as he won't take formula or cows milk right now (he does drink water sparingly throughout the day). Is it selfish of me to deny him my milk to serve my own purpose???

Georgimama, thanks for the tip I will google natural contraception tonight.
