Suddenly after 5 months using nipple shields, DD feeds without!

DD over 5 months and is ebf. From when she was a week old, we have been feeding using nipple shields. She now tends to feed without them and I think she actually prefers it now without. I didn't encourage her to feed without them btw she just tends to get a bit restless until she knocks it off then seems happier.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so how did you cope? My right nipple is a bit tender but I think her latch is ok.

I thought we would be using nipple shields forever!

Finally, she's cracked it! DS was just the same. The nipple thing will go away in a few days and at least you won't have to keep sterilising the damn things any more! Congrats!

Oooohh you lucky thing!! I bf for a year with nipple shields and never got my dd (now 18 months) to feed without them! Envy

Please tell me this will happen with my DD. I keep trying things but she won't feed without them except in the bath Hmm I also think it will be forever.

Anyone else think that people think you are weird for using them?

Nipple shields meant I could breastfeed my baby! I'd have been lost without them! DD wouldn't latch without them either so I'm extremely grateful for nipple shields!

Thats given me hope, been using with DS2 for 10 weeks now, didnt use at all with DS1. I will have another go, I had resigned myself to using them forever!

Maybe my DD's mouth is big enough now? Who knows, she's just decided that she can feed from them alone now instead of wondering what to do.

I didn't do anything different. I just think she is becoming more adventurous smile
