rugby ball hold - feeding when out?

Was hoping for a bit of advice. Slowly getting the hang of feeding at home ( ds 3 weeks old)with a crazily big pillow - the my breast friend one.

Am going to need to feed out sooner rather than later which I'm really anxious about, particularly as the latch seems to be better with the rugby ball hold . What can I use as a substitute pillow? Someone recommended a bag over lap but not sure it will help with the position?

Thanks for help

I've used all sorts- nappy bag, table in a cafe. The trick is confidence. Just look people who stare straight in the eye and say, very sweetly, "Hello. Can I help you with something?" Or express. IMHO, the whole no bottle before 6 wks thing is cobblers. Congrats on your decision to BF, especially in public, it will get easier, I promise!

I'm interested in this too, I've got the same sort of question (ds is 8wks old though) - can't get the hang of a bf position without a pillow, when I feed him out and about he never gets a good feed because it's so hard to hold him up.

With DS1 & 2 I used to use the rugby ball hold when feeding from my right side (but not my left). I used to lie them on my changing bag. They only ever wanted to feed from one side and I did used to try and time it that if they needed feeding when out I would feed from my left side.

With DS3 I have finally got the hang of him feeding lying across me for both sides (sorry not sure of the positioning names).

As DrSeuss has just said, it definately gets easier with practice Smile. If you have a really big blanket in your pram, you can fold it up to make a cushion shape and even use a bit of the blanket if you want to hide any bits (I use this when DS3 who's 9 months has a bit of a nosy round mid feed).

Thanks, combination of blanket and bag sounds like a good idea. Not quite ready to leave the security of my sofa but willl start to prepare myself!
