Any way to improve feeding pattern at night?

DS is nearly 8 weeks and BFs very well. I also really enjoy it and don't want to give up. However, I have a mild neurological condition that means sleep is essential and this is causing a problem. At the moment we are putting DS to sleep in our bed between 8 and 9, DH looks after him till 2 and gives him a bottle of formula, then I take over.

A few weeks ago we had a few good nights where DS would feed at 2 and sleep till 6, feed again and sleep till 8. Perfect, meant I got enough sleep and all was good. But, for the last few weeks he's been waking every two hours for a feed. So 2, 4,6 and then again at 8, when we get up. I was hoping the formula (with the 2 o clock BF top up) would help him to go through till 6 again but it hasn't.

Last night DH gave DS 4oz at about 11 and another 3oz at about 1, so that was 7oz within two hours but he still woke for a feed at 3:30. When he wakes he definitely feeds, plenty of good sucking and gulping so I don't think it's just a comfort thing. I'm really starting to feel the effect of this lack of sleep and am seriously considering switching to formula in the hopes that'll fill him up across the day and keep him going longer at night. My cousin did this and her LO now sleeps 10 to 6 every night. I would love to avoid it if I could. Any advice?

Hmmm, you might find that formula works but you might not.... sorry not to be more positive!

In my experience, little babies wake for a multitude of reasons, not only hunger - however, when a breast/ bottle is proffered they will drink it! That's just my experience. I have had two babies who woke/ wake a lot at night, one FF and one BF, no discernible difference apart from the fact that with my FF baby son my husband can do alternate nights allowing me to get some sleep, which is important for me -like you- as I have been quite unwell.
