Screaming when feeding - over/under supply

Can my supply go very quickly from very fast to too slow very quickly? DS2 is now 8 weeks (3 weeks corrected) and is mainly bf. I express in the evening and DH gives a bottle of ebm/ff mix. He seems quite hungry and was gaining weight well at the last check a couple of weeks ago. Often he gets windy/uncomfortable and I carry him in a sling.

What happens most feeds is that he takes the long sucks when the milk is coming fast, sometimes struggling to keep up and so pulling off and screaming. Or he keeps up with the initial fast supply and then after that pulls off screaming. Usually he wont really go back on (despite seeming hungry) but rolls the nipple around his mouth and seems to get frustrated.

The only thing Ive been able to do is wait a while, calm him down and try again. This means that feeds can last a long time and involve stressful screaming. My other DCs were also tricky to b/feed, but Im not sure I have the stamina this time to persist when the others need time and energy. My daily supply seems to be around 180-200ml above what he is taking - I usually get this amount from expressing.

Any ideas/help would be very useful. I dont really want to give up at least until the 'flu season etc is over. Im trying to find a lactation consultant (we dont live in the UK and I dont speak the local language).

Thanks alot

If you express, your supply will adjust to accommodate the extra demand so while you express, your supply won't drop to just what your LO takes. Presumably though, if you're giving any formula you're not producing enough rather than too much.

Could you LO be windy during feeds? This can particularly be an issue with fast letdown.

Do you offer the other side when he comes off?

Japhrimel - I was offering a mix of formula in the evening to try and make him last a little longer between feeds(and try to get a bit more sleep). Yes, he could be windy - when I calm him I do get a burp.

Moonunit - Yes Im offering the other side but it happens just the same (and if I offer too soon there isnt another let down so more screaming).

I'd say issues with offering too soon could be related to wind.
