just got mine. what form of sterilisation do you use? The instructions only mention using medela steam bags. I currently microwave sterilise in a box would this be ok?

I have the soft fit breastshield

Hi there my old boss had these and she boil steralised in saucepan for 5mins

japhrimel · 19/02/2011 17:48

I cold water sterilise with Milton - it was what was done in scbu and it's so easy and cheap. I've heard from a few people that their microwave sterilisers melted pump parts so I'd be wary of doing it that way (electric steam or cold seem fine).

MummyBerryJuice · 19/02/2011 18:52

I used the microwave when I used mine regularly because I didn't like the smell of Milton. The parts did get somewhat warped but have remained fine for use.

There was actually a long discussion on here a few months ago about not needing t sterilise things f the are clean and since DS was over 6 months I just made sure the parts and bottles were good and clean (dish-washer)

Although he never did take a bottle (but that is another story in itself Grin)

thanks all. mbj i'm not sure ds will take a bottle anymore now that i've invested in a proper pump, typical.

microwave sterilised and no warping everything fine. And wow what a fantastic pump worth every penny.

I've used a steam sterilizer (not a microwave one) for a year and it's been fine.

Steam here too. What a pump!

mimmymouse · 24/02/2011 10:17

Been using a steam steriliser with Swing for months.

sorry to hijack the post..

Just bought a medela swing secondhand and am looking at express yourself mums for spares..

My brain is not working..could anyone suggest which parts should be replaced?

There is a breastpump kit at £20..which defeats the purpose of my mission not to increase landfill!!

mum2oneloudbaby · 24/02/2011 21:41

You need the refresh kit it's everything that milk touches, so bottle, tube, breastshield, connector and the valve assembly that is replaced but go to PoshMums instead it was cheaper. I just bought mine secondhand and these are the bits I replaced.
