I've just received a second hand ameda lactaline pump and in the first line of the health and safety instructions it advises that it shouldn't be shared between mothers. Does anyone know why this is?

because they'd sell more if they don't get shared?

Cross infection. But the pump and the tubes (I have one) don't cone into contact with the milk and everything else can be dishwashed or sterilised.

That's what I'm telling myself. I'll buy two new expressing kits, and the milk isn't supposed to back up to the motor anyway so it shouldn't make any difference that it 's second hand, right?

x posted. Is cross infection possible?

I think it's just one of those 'to be on the safe side and not get sued' message. I have just passed mine on to a close friend, all the bits which come in contact with milk can be sterilised, I can't even see how cross infection could be a theoretical possibility to be honest.

No. Mine is also second hand.

You'll be fine, it's a good pump.

Thanks. Feeling better.
