Green poo - milk imbalance?

Dd is 3 weeks, always been gassy/colicy. Takes me ages to settle her after a feed. She's just had bronchiolitus so not been well either. Her last 3 nappies have been green.

Googled it and it says it's a fore/hind milk imbalance. Is that right and if so how do I fix it? I don't time feeds, she comes off when she wants.

I would speak to a breast feeding counsellor if I were you, I had this with ds1 at the same age and it was because I wasn't feeding frequently enough, my milk was building up and he was only getting the fore milk but sometimes it's because you are feeding too frequently and baby is only snacking on the fore milk, so it might be useful to have so one who knows what they are talking about to talk to.

The odd green nappy isn't anything to worry about. If they become consistently green and the fussiness continues then do phone a helpline or get some RL help. At 3 weeks your supply is still sorting itself out and if you start fiddling with it you could affect it negatively. You need to be sure the problem's correctly diagnosed before doing anything about it - and green poo just means it's passed through the gut quickly, it isn't a specific sign of foremilk-hindmilk imbalance. :)

I think green nappies can happen when they've had a virus as well (the bronchiolitis?) - mine sometimes get a run of green nappies when they've been ill.

Thanks, she seems a bit better today, they are now yellow and green so I will see how the weekend goes.

Glad she's a bit better.

Sometimes they can just have a green nappy, sometimes they get them when they've had a virus and sometimes it's linked to the amount of foremilk they're having, but foremilk/hindmilk is slightly more complicated than is often made out.

If the nappies are going back to yellow now and she seems well, I think I'd put it down to one of those things but if it persists have a chat with somebody about what might be happening.
