My ds2 is 10 days old and is feeding well- so far!

My question is should I offer both breasts at each feed? If so how long into the feed do I do this?

If I have fed from both sides which side do I start from with the next feed?

I can't really remember from last time as I did not manage to feed my first son for very long.

My ds2 didn't start needing both breasts until about 16weeks. I did block feed before then though to try and help his reflux.

Ds1 always took both breasts. I would feed fully from one side, switch him over and he would spend a couple minutes on the 2nd side.

At the next feed I always offered the breast he last fed from first.

Congratulations!

Offer the breast that you fed from the second time, at the next feed.

Feed 1 - right breast then left breast

so, Feed 2 - left breast first.

It may help to have a scrunchie on your wrist that you swap from one to the other to remind you which side next.

Don't fret about it too much though, and in the early days you may be able to tell which is fuller (or you may not, which is fine).

Yes you can offer both breasts

Your baby will let you know if she wants it or not

When your baby comes off the first side by unlatching and looking all milky and full you can offer the other side

A feed starts with quick sucks, and then develops into gulps and then suck, break, suck, break as the feed goes on

A feed is not a set time and will vary from baby to baby

Start with the breast you have finished on for the next feed if the baby hasn't taken much from it - use a bobble or something on your wrist to remind you

Offer both sides everytime. When DS comes off the first just offer the other, don't time anything, just when you think he's finished on the first side. You can go back to that side after the second, keep going back and forth if you like until he isn't feeding anymore.

Start on the other side next time.
