Can there be a link between feeding from engorged breasts & reflux?

Dd3 gets occasional reflux and I can't pin point anything I eat that triggers it but there is a correlation between me being v full & her being sicky. Can they be linked?

Fast letdown? Less fatty milk?

Interesting question, OP.

I've been trying to work out what makes DD worse on occasion, and now you mention it, it does seem to coincide with engorged breasts sometimes. I see it the other way round though- when she's unsettled, I feed her more which ups my supply.

We're seriously thinking that my breakfast cereal causes it. Reflux/colic stopped when I changed to oatmeal for breakfast. It's not the wheat, as I eat bread a fair bit. Maybe the malt or the stuff they fortify it with?

Will keep an eye for a link with being engorged and post back if I notice anything!

I notice this too. I'm not sure of the mechanism - foremilk-rich feeds make them gassy, and gas, as with anything which increases intra-abdominal pressure, will increase reflux?

Just had it again this am, first feed came back on second feed from soft boob now

Try expressing off an oz or so of foremilk first? Or stopping to wind halfway through. It could simply be the fast letdown coupled with a flood of milk under some force leading to her taking in a load of air, which then comes up and brings the milk with it.

I expressed loads this am. Well some & loads poured out in the shower! It's always been fast & she's coped since about 6 weeks old .

I was reading somewhere that there is more lactose in the foremilk, which could maybe why.
