Philips Avent pump - please help!!

Hi - I'm using the Philips Avent electronic pump, and I just cannot get suction. Philips have already kindly changed the motor, and all the other parts look fine, so does anyone have any tips?? It worked fine until about 3 weeks ago, and it;s only 2.5 months old. Maybe I need to replace the petal cushion - lots of milk seems to go into the petals, and I can't seem to get a perfect seal. Thanks!

That's an odd one, I use that pump but never had a major issue like that! Occasionally my bra or top gets caught and the suction isn't there but with a bit of repositioning and moving clothing it's fine.

Are you sure that you are putting all the parts together correctly? (not wishing to patronise, I still get it wrong sometimes when v tired).

Does the cushion "fit" the pump? ie does the lip curl round the plastic all the way round?

When clipping it all to the motor does it sound like it's locking on properly? If it makes a weird noise take it off and try again.

Does it suck when using it manually?

Don't worry about milk in the petals. At the end I take the cushion off and drip the drops of milk into the bottle I've just done.

Thanks for replying. I don't think you are patronising at all - I am a complete muppet when it comes to anything involving assembling parts, so I am sure I am doing something wrong. I just tried wetting the petal cushion before I assembled it, and got much better suction - is it meant to be wet in the first place??
No - it wasn't sucking manually either, which means I am obviously doing something wrong. The parts are definitely in the right places though.

Sounds as if the cushion isn't fitting well - I never need to wet it though.

Now this WILL sound patronising (but again I don't mean it to, I am always bleating for help from DH for stuff like this). If you have an OH can you get him to look at it? I've put the little pin the wrong way round in the rubber wheel-shaped thing before, forgotten the little white rubbery bit, put it in upside down.... all sorts!

Alternatively, go out to Tesco's/Sainsbury's now if you have one nearby as they will be open late, buy another one, then try putting it together and see if that one works. If it doesn't, you KNOW it's you doing something wrong - then return it tomorrow. If it does work, there's something wrong with the one you have. Package up the old one, cleaning it carefully so it looks unused, put it back in the box and return it tomorrow to Tesco (dodgy but needs must eh?)

I don't think breastpumps can be returned unless faulty due to hygeine reasons. You could try having a look on youtube for an instructional video on how to assemble the pump. HTH

for me on the manual one it usually that I've put the rubbery plastic star shaped thing in the wrong way round
does the electric have one of those?
