BFing positions that are good for reading

I am a great reader and I have recently noticed that most books are not optimally constructed for reading onehanded. Any suggestions on bfing positions that allow me to read?

Buy a Kindle?

Failing that, I think that its not so much the position, but the support. So if you've got a good bf cushion that doesn't slide around, and good back support etc, then you should be able to use one hand to hold the book and bring it over to your other hand (which is supporting the baby) when you need to turn a page. I had a mybrestfriend cushion, and managed no hands at all when DD1 was really tiny. Depends on the baby though really.

Feeding lying on your side in bed. Book held either in the lower hand, or in the upper hand resting on a cushion behind the baby.

If feeding in a 'conventional' sitting up position, then tuck a big, soft cushion or pillow under the opposite arm to support that arm and hand asituation holds the book. The cushion can even come over the baby's legs for you to rest the book on it.

Alternatively, download books onto an iPhone app. I have FreeBooks, which is very comfortable to use. Only drawback is that virtually all its books are out of copyright, so ideal for classics and obscure stuff, not so good if you want modern stuff. OTOH, it's free.

I breastfeed a lot lying down (because I couldn't sit for quite a while after giving birth :() I read loads of books over DS's head, resting one side of the book on the bed with my arm lying across him holding the other side. Definitely the easiest position I found for reading.

Having said that, now he is older I've had to stop as he clocks the slightest noise, including the pages turning and wants to turn round to have a look :)

Biological nurturing - you lying back propped up with baby lying on your tummy.

Info here - in fact, I think one of the mums in those pictures on the home page is actually reading a magazine.

I read a lot while bf and found the main thing was to sit up against something straight backed (i.e. straight backed chair or up against the back of the bed etc) and have the baby suitably propped up at breast level with pillows, both hands are then petty much free, even though restricted as you have to sort of keep the baby's head in place with one arm, and also you can prop the book up on the pillow behind the baby.

Second the Kindle - it is MADE for bfing! Mine has been invaluble!

Sony eReader, like a Kindle, fantastic!

i'd justadd that paperbacks are much easier than hardbacks.

I now have the same problem as roufous now unless he's v sleepy - he likes to whack the book with his free arm, or whack the computer keyboard!

If I wanted to read I'd try and position him on a breastfeeding pillow for optimum book handling. It could still be difficult though, particularly if reading a heavy book.

I have also read several books using my iPhone (using the Kindle or the Stanza app) - tiny screen, but so easy to read one handed.
