Someone Tell me that FF isn't the answer!!

DD (7 weeks) feeds constantly! She will not go down in her bed; if I put her down she screams within 10 mins....I can cope with all this. However, DS (3) has developed chicken pox and it just seems impossible to meet all their needs Sad.

Every time I put DD down to sort out/cuddle/medicate DS, she just cries and there is a little voice at the back of my head saying, if she was having ff via a bottle then this wouldn't be so much of a problem...How do I manage this?

well, even if you were ff, she'd still have to be fed the formula, and DS would still need his medicine, ff wouldn't magically stop your DD wanting to always be held!

Its a bit of a predictable suggestion, but have you tried a sling?

the chicken pox will pass, DD will settle down with the feeding, and once you get a couple of months down the line your life will be alot easier for having continued with bfing.

You'd also need to sterilise/make up bottles etc...

I agree with the sling idea, at least then you can have your hands free for your DS.

Formula isn't the answer to everything.

Even if your DD was FF she might still scream when she is put down. Not because she is hungry but because she is 7 weeks old and wants to be near mummy.

I 2nd the sling suggestion.

I had ds2 when ds1 was 17months and the sling saved my sanity in the early days. (Get a really good one, i love my connecta)

Once he hit 12 weeks, his feeding really settled down and then at 16 weeks became far more predictable in his feeds. He's now 21 weeks and we're still going with the BF.

It will not hurt your DD to cry for a couple of minutes while you sort out your DS especially when you know she is clean, dry and fed.

This too shall pass.

Agree with RobynLou- at least when you bfeed, you have one hand spare to cuddle DS.

Is there anyone close by that can come and give you a hand for a few days?

CJMommy · 13/02/2011 17:51

Thank you! That's just what i needed! I do have a sling but haven't made the best use of it yet. I so want to carry on and you're all right, the chicken pox will pass Smile

Thanks again x

My DS1 was a continuous feeder. After nearly 6 weeks of having him more or less permanently clamped on we tried a dummy and it was like having a different child! One who stayed asleep after a feed, giving me a much needed break!

cardamomginger · 13/02/2011 19:38

i ff by necessity and it is a pita Sad.

mrsgordonfreeman · 13/02/2011 21:31

It is probably not the answer but you knew that really.

In my experience switching to ff doesn't solve problems, it just replaces the ones you have with fresh ones.

How is the chickenpox now?

CJMommy · 13/02/2011 21:36

mrsg A bit worse. He's gone to bed but itching like mad. I've just been lying with him to try to settle him as DD finlly gone to sleep (albeit on my lap) and DH has her now.
Am dreading tomorrow as DH at work so on my own..........I just feel so guilty that I can't devote all my attention to him. It's the first time he's ever been poorly Sad.

moajab We introduced a dummy a few days ago; has made a slight difference although when I give it to her, she looks at me like I'm trying to choke her!

Poor itchy thing. How long does it usually last for? It can't be much longer, no?

Just enjoy the peaceful moments I guess, and you can make a fuss of him whenever you get the chance.
