Very interesting foxy.

Thanks.

Very illuminating. Thanks for flagging this up.

"Even if you follow the rules an purchase a new Medela pump, keep it, and never allow it to be used by a second party, you can still have problems. It?s important to note that Medela is completely open about their pumps being single-user only, they?re very forthright about that. What?s not being said, though, is that if milk or condensation make their way into the tubing and then motor, the pumps can grow mold inside their motors."

OMG. But, when alls said and done, that medela swing did enable my son to drink breast milk during some pretty bad times in the first few weeks (overseas so fending for self!)and I'm still BFing at 7 months. Still, 180 quid and it might be growing mould? Thats quite outrageous. Glad I never use it anymore in that case. I'll always wish I'd had the knowledge and the balls to just not get a breast pump. I simply didn't need one once I knew what I was doing.

OMG, this is terrible! I can't believe this. I have a Medela Pump in Style donated to me second-hand by my SIL who lives in the US. I have always been using the pump to express milk. Now I'm having second thoughts Angry

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 13/02/2011 06:26

I'm using a forth hand madela swing! Its all family though. It works really well and I love it, wish I hadn't read that.

what I find disappointing is that Medela charges a premium for its Pump in Style model when it is clearly an inferior pump. It goes to show how marketing works.

Personally, I chose the Ameda Lactaline when I was looking at pumps based on what I can afford. Reading this I am glad I went for a Lactaline on several counts.

I have read on other blogs, readers' comments saying that PIS motor dies a lot earlier than expected. these were mostly US moms who had bought it to express at work so the pump was asked to work hard. Other anecdotes were from moms who had experienced recurrent bouts of thrush and were using the PIS. Of course anecdotes do not equal data but now it is making people wonder.
