My ds is ebf and is 19 days old. Sometimes he feeds for quite short bursts, like 10 mins at a time, and then is sick, or brings up milk with his hiccups. I then worry that I should feed him more, but sometimes he does not seem interested. Can it be that he is satisfied with such short feeds. I find it so upsetting when he is sick- it does not bother him at all but one of my nipples is quite sore and having fed him only for him to throw it back up seems so wasteful and frustrating. He does seem quite windy and uncomfortable after feeds it takes much longer to wind and resettle him than it does to feed him! I am also emetophobic and am terrified he is going to chokecwhen he is sick. Does anyone have any advice? He is producing lots of wet and dirty nappies which would suggest he is getting enough, right? Tia

:( Sorry you are worried about this.

Let's get one thing straight - a baby chucking up milk he does not need is not wasteful :) There is plenty more milk where that came from! It's about as 'wasteful' as, um.....talking to yourself is wasteful of words :) Or as 'wasteful' as breathing out is wasteful of CO2 :)

Babies chuck up. It's what they do. It's especially what 19 day old babies do. It's going to affect you more because of your phobia (and you might want to get that sorted) but as you say, it does not bother him.
Sometimes he will need feeding again and sometimes the 'quite windy and uncomfortable' behaviour you see really means 'I would like to be on your breast again please'.

He sounds perfectly healthy and normal - ask the HV or a breastfeeding counsellor about making your sore nip. better and you can relax and enjoy this nice time :)
