Hello everyone
Already posted this in allergies just wondering if anyone here has any experiences to
share ...
14 week old DS has had terrible colic symptoms since birth. At 9 weeks he developed bad eczema on face and body. He also has been quite snuffly and mucusy since birth. I have been convinced for a few weeks that it could be an allergy to formula. GP not so convinced and prescribed ENfamil AR as she suspected silent reflux with rantinidine. That was two weeks ago now and he has spent the last 5 days screaming in pain after feeds with terrible wind. Took him to A and E tonight after much deliberating and the doc suggested we try a lactose free formula as we've tried most other options. The pharmacy had Enfamil O Lac so we've got that but I;ve since read that Nutrimagen is a much better option rellay at my wits end and GP and HV being mostly useless any advice out there??? thanks

Have you seen a paediatric dietitian, sassie?

Speciality formulas are a tricky area - not many GPs or HVs or A&E docs are likely to know their way around the differences and indeed which ones are easily available. If the pharmacy can't rely on a regular supply, for instance, then that makes life more difficult.

Is a return to breastfeeding an option for you? This might be a way of dealing with his pain and discomfort - 5 days of screaming after feeds is no fun for anyone, and it certainly sounds diet-related.

Hope you get it sorted.

thanks tiktok we have a referral in for the paediatric dietician so at least an expert will be able to advise us properly. Have read about relactation but TBH I couldn't inflict it on the rest of the family DS is only 3 and feeling a bit left out already. Feel so guilty that we gave it up after 7n weeks thinking formula would fix what we thought was hunger pains and colic. Anyhow after a day of the lactose free formula he seems quite settled no screaming at all today Smile

My son had same kind of symptoms at birth, and after trip to a&e and demanding to see HV and doc at 7wks old, he was prescribed nutramigen because of lactose intollerance, and the syptoms all stopped overnight!!!
If he's doing better with the enfamil, go back and see the doctor explain what the hospital said and you should get nutramigen prescribed :) p.s my son grew out of it, by 18months Grin

thanks lisamumtojake saw my gp this morning who agreed with the a and e doctor and has given me a script for 2 weeks of enfamil o lac 'to see how it goes' only 8 weeks to wait for the dietician's appointment!! Will press on for the nutrimigen if we have anymore problems

yes definitely it worked wonders with our DS! Our dietician was great too, and said to get the Nutramigen so all in all it worked out good for my little man! :)
