Comfy but cheap chair for feeding?

I have moved DS into own room at 7m but expect will have to keep doing a couple of nightfeeds. I was feeding him in bed but since the move need something to sit on.

Don't want to spend loads on a Glider chair as hope to stop BFing sooner rather than later but need something for next couple of months.

I would prefer something with no or low arms as he is quite long and can see him getting squished between the arms of lots of chairs.

What do others use (those that don't feed in bed that is). I am sure there has been a discussion on this before but can't find it.

Anything would do so any ideas or suggestions?

Fifitot,

I got a great chair from Ikea, its actually a dining chair with arms but I use a normal pillow and the arms give me somewhere to lean my arms onto to take the weight of DD. I have been doing all night feeds since she came home in this chair and would recommend it! Sounds strange I know but it is comfy. I have a wee pillow for the base of my back and a small footstool (also ikea) which I put my feet on so that my knees are higher so that DD dosent slide off my knee when I am half asleep.

I know you said no arms but I thought you might be interested anyway? Hope this helps, to be honest I have never fed in bed cause I will be even more tempted to fall asleep cause im a real sleepy head! Oh, and DD is also quite long (now 6 months) and lies on the pillow across the arms.

Hope this is helpful Smile

I ended up with a garden chair (metal frame, with material cushion seats) from Homebase. Worked really well, but a bit random. I really wanted a glider, but we were very short of space.

This is the nearest link I can find. Actually very comfortable (good lower back support for me, and low arms that worked well, but didn't swamp DS).

www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500002701&langId=-1&searchTerms=6510154

Doesn't look very glamorous, but did work very well.

Sorry, can't work out how to do link properly. Go to www.argos.co.uk and search for 6510154 and product should come up.

I have an Ikea Poang armchair. I either put a cushion under his head (which rests on one of the arms) or use a pillow under his head and body.

He's 13 months now and 98th centile height, and the arms of the chair have never caused a problem. Great for rocking in too. I put a small pillow in the small of my back for extra support.

How about something like this. It has low arms and a footstool to make you comfortable. I think it'll still be handy having a chair in your child's bedroom even once you stop breastfeeding. You'll be begged to read bedtime stories surely!

aswellasyou · 08/02/2011 23:21

Or something like this if you want no arms.

I have an ikea Boliden chair. It is sturdier than a poang I think, it comes with footstool and has low arms. I love this chair! It is really comfy. Ds is 91st centile for height but only 20 weeks. The arms haven't caused any problems so far. It's 80 quid.

I went to ikea and sat in all the chairs but knew instantly that this was 'the one' twas love at first sit!

Oooh thanks for all those great ideas and links. I will investigate further.

I did see a great chair in John Lewis but it was £700! Shame!

Ebay!! I found one of the most expensive glider chairs, which is extremely comfortable, for a fraction of the cost. (£75). The comfort for night feeds alone was worth it. It is in DD nursery.

Sarahlou8 · 13/02/2011 20:33

I second the Ikea Poang! It's the comfiest chair ever. I use it with a v-shape feeding cushion on my lap.
It cost £80 for the chair and £40 for the footstool, but have since found there's absolutely loads of them on ebay!

BronwenC · 13/02/2011 21:23

I used to use a Poang from IKEA, but its so not supportive for your back, and its a pain having to arrange cushions etc in the middle of the night... also I was afraid of (rather thrashy and fidgety) baby banging his head on the wooden arms. I caved and spent £140 on a glider. Its so amazing I would recommend it to anyone!! I intend fully on moving it to the front room when I dont need to use it for feeding anymore, its so comfy! They sell them for about £80+ on mums2b.com.

ethelina · 13/02/2011 21:25

I third (fourth?) the Poang. I find it comfortable and with the addition of a pillow on my lap, no problems with Boy's long legs.

Tryharder · 13/02/2011 22:53

I got a Poang as well and find it very comfortable as the arm rests are exactly where I need them to be for me to bf DD. Got it for £20 off eBay. I used to have a proper glider rocking chair thingy but DS1 trapped his finger in the glidy bits so we got rid of it.
