Can I top up milk freezer bags?

I can only express about 2-3 oz milk at a time. I'm freezing it for a weekend away at the end of March. It seems wasteful of storage bags to only partially fill them. Is it ok to top up already frozen milk with new milk if I chill it in the fridge first?

I think that would still partially thaw the milk so you'd be refreezing which is a no-no. What I sometimes do is put it in the fridge, then chill a second lot and freeze them together with the early date.

Do you mix 2 lots from consecutive days? So that one is 24hrs old and one is fresh.

I always did and have bf and pumped for 6 babies with no ill effect!

Yeah I'll mix up to a day apart.

I always used to freeze 2 oz or so in a bag - I thought that was the point :) Then when I wanted to feed the milk I'd just thaw out 3 or 4 bags and mix them together.

They thaw out quicker too :)

My mum suggested to me that what she used to do for us was put the milk into an icecube tray, inside a freezer bag. Then when its frozen, put the milk cubes in together. That would stop the fresh milk from defrosting the older milk?

I havent tried it though as I've been getting quite a bit of milk off when I express since I do it while DS has his first feed of the day.

'Pumped milk may be added to frozen milk provided it is first chilled and the quantity is less than what is frozen.' from here. I've heard it before.

However you can milk to the fridge over a couple of days and then freeze it.

Plus, there is no 'only' about it. That's about a feed and will do 2-3 hours.
