What would you recommend is best/was best for you?

With my DD i used a manual and it took forever to get just 1 ounce, tbh i dont think i gave it too much of a chance and didnt do it again.

Any opinions would be great thanks :-)

My HV recommended a manual pump, but I could barely get a drop out. Didn't try an electric one though.

I expressed and donated loads for my local NICU so expressed often and found a manual by far the best. More control to find a rhythm that works for you IYSWIM.

I tried a manual pump to begin with and struggled so switched to a Medela Mini-Electric and that worked much better.

Do bear in mind that to begin with you may only get 10ml or so but with regular use, that builds up.

Couldn't get anything with a manual - the electric ones have worked for me (Medela Mini-electric with my first and am now using the Medela Swing with my second).

Philips Avent single electric. You set the rhythm manually, click the button and the motor remembers it!

Has lasted for 17 weeks so far of exclusive expressing, love it. Very efficient too and easy to put together.

I'm currently using a manual and it works really well especially first thing in the morning. I give my daughter the other breast as her last feed the evening before. I really recommend having a photo of your little one there when you do it, I also find closing my eyes and picturing her latching on and the grunt of enthusiasm she gives a real aid to getting it going.

I expressed exclusively from 1 wk to 6mths. Initally in hospital I had one of their double electric pumps but never got on with it. Back home I used a single manual Avent Isis for the next 6 mths. IME it depends on if you have high or low volume when you pump. I was most def high volume, with a manual I used to get 7-8oz in 10mins and was nicknamed "Daisy". In reality I think you have to try them out and see what works best for you. There is no one size fits all with pumps. Good Luck.

I couldn't recommend highly enough the Ameda Lactaline electric double pump. You set the strength of suction and the rhythm, and if you use it as a double pump you can get a lot of milk out! (My first go I got enough milk out to last DS 2 feeds).

I did have a Tommee Tippee electric and hardly got any milk out.

Have never tried a manual so can't really offer a comparison with that

I didn't find the Avent as good as the Medela swing. Also having looked at Jack Newman's site I also use breast compression to increase my yield (still not producing enough for a full day's ration but has helped).

I think either manual or a swing electric.
I have the tommee tippee electric and it's rubbish so I really wouldn't recommend it
