Feeding right before bed has messed up night time!

Hi All

I don't understand what has recently happened with DD and her sleep. I used to feed about 5.30pm and DD would go to bed at 7ish. She then wouldn't wake for a feed until 6 hours later at least.

I started feeding her right before bed, with the hope of her going longer, a few days ago and now she wakes at 10pm! I don't get it! She is 14 weeks next week if that makes a difference.

I thought her being fuller would help. Should I go back to not feeding right before bed. Most people seem to do this so I am wondering if I should carry on or revert to plan A.

Thanks

Sarah

Hi Sarah,
I hate to say it but I am a lover of the Gina Ford routine, and would never look back!!
They tells you to feed at 7, 11, 2.30, 6.15 and 10.30.
Personally I would stick to feeding before bed as long as she isnt staring by that time, (if so give a small amount of boiled water?)and then I would wake her up at ten for a feed before she wakes up naturally. She will gradually take less and less formula at this feed if you stick to it and then she'll drop it all together. Happy days!!!! Hope this helps ?

I doubt it's the feeding - it could be to do with the 4 month sleep regression, or a bit of a growth spurt.

More info here, here, here and here.

Or it could be that needing a wee wakes her up?

Or it could be that she's just changed her pattern - babies do this all the time and it's totally normal.

Is the fact that she wakes at 10pm a big problem? It seems quite normal for a tiny baby.

Well I didn't feed her right before bed last night and she slept the 6 hour stretch again. I guess its not a huge problem....but I feel like I want to understand why her having a fuller tummy breaks that 6 hours rather than extends it.

At that age I would have given my right arm for one of mine to sleep 6 hours Grin.

Shouldn't worry about it too much.
