Engorged breasts

I'm unsure if this is normal when the milk replaces colostrum they become engorged? breasts are twice the size in a day and solid - rock like and very sore. Baby is feeding but struggling as too hard to manipulate at all and latching simply falls off! Managing to get through feeding with direct and expressing to feed Baby. It's very early days with Baby - days since giving birth and my first Baby so don't know what is/isn't normal. Is the double in size normal? and solidness? Do I need to do something? Feeding and expressing doesn't make them go down or any softer. How long will this last for please?

Sorry, the I May Soon Explode thing is normal! It will go away in a few days. Mothercare sell booby shaped ice packs!

Aw, it's really uncomfortable I know, but Seuss is right - it will settle down.

It's totally normal - I went from a B cup to an E Shock when my milk came in. Your baby might struggle to latch on if you are too engorged as this might flatten the nipple...maybe try a little hand expressing?

Congratulations btw.

Thank you Smile and phew! so I'll just wait for them to settle and get Baby fed with direct where can / expressing until he can feed from them as has been.

Exactly Smile. In time they'll soften and the size will settle down. My sympathies though - it really is very tender!
