Weight loss after breast feeding?

Has anyone ever lost weight once giving up breast feeding. DD2 is 12m and still feeding around 5 times a day but I just can't shift any weight.

I'm wondering if it will all suddenly come off when I stop BF.

Can anyone give me a glimmer of hope? I've never had problems loosing weight before, even after DD1.

Is this it now or do I still have a chance?

That happened to me. Lost most of the baby weight after a couple of weeks, but once breast feeding was established I piled on a good 3 stone.

I bf for about 10 months and lost most of the weight once I'd stopped. I was going to the gym occasionally too, but it had little effect until I stopped bfing.

Same thing happened with both my dds.

It's sickening though isn't it? Everyone says bfing will help you lose weight so it's rubbish when the opposite happens.

DS1 I lost nothing after the first couple of weeks, fed until about 8 months, and then at around a year the weight fell off. I completely lost my appetite and it was all gone within about 6 weeks.

DS2 it has been gradually coming off throughout. He is 9 months now, still BF, and I am back at pre-pg weight. I have been much more disciplined about what I eat though. If I am hungry I eat fruit rather than cake, which I did quite a lot of after DS1 Blush

I suspect that our bodies hold on to a certain amount of 'reserve' while BFing - you are providing nutrition for another being so you need decent energy stores. As soon as I stopped it seemed much easier to shift. No doubt someone clever will come along and tell me that's bollocks Grin

I agree with you hero.
I'm holding onto an extra 1/2 stone whilst bfing DS3, despite eating pretty healthily and exercising at least twice a week.
Alas it was the same with my DT, once I'd stopped feeding the last bit dropped off.
So baggy jumpers for me for another 6 months...
