Am wondering about milk feeding norms in toddlers, as I want to replace a BF with a cow milk feed in the evenings.
DS, 18m, has a breastfeed as soon as he wakes in the morning, and when we get home from work/nursery at about 5.30-6pm. I work full time in an office, am very lucky to have a great nursery on site, and we live one mile from work so have a 15 minute walk as our commute.
During the day at nursery he has three meals, snacks, and cow milk at least twice. At home he eats almost anything I put in front of him and drinks water or cow milk, plus those two BFs. He has a fourth meal at 7 ish, and last thing before bed he drinks water. All of these water/milk drinks are from cups, some sippy but most like tumblers.
If I have to stay late at work, he'll drink cow milk quite happily in place of the evening BF, but first thing in the morning is more of an instinctive root around for boob so he needs a bit of persuading.
I am going away with work for nearly a week soon, and also in general I want to be a little less pinned to the sofa in the evening when getting home from work. So I think I'll offer a cup of "moo-muh" (as he calls it) when we get home, and then I can better get on with making our meal.
We both like the cuddly snuffly BF first thing in the morning, and I like to have the ability to still BF 'in reserve' for illness or needing to be settled at night. I've no worries about being able to keep supply up after a few days away, especially if I express occasionally.
Anyone else still BF-ing a toddler and got a significantly different pattern? Am I delinquent for not having him drinking milk last thing in his pyjamas with his story/song?
