milk coming out of baby's nose

I feed my DD in cross cradle hold on a widgey cushion, holding my (large) breast. When on my left breast, on her right side, she usually ends up with milk (sometimes mixed with snot) running out of her right nostril. This doesn't happen on the other side. She's not spitting up, she doesn't seem at all distressed about it, except for disliking me wiping it up.
Is this common? Why does it happen? Is it a problem? Can I, should I, do anything about it?

This happens with my DS, a bit like your DD he doesn't seem bothered so I haven't done anything about it. I presumed it was to do with milk being a bit fast flowing, but I will watch this thread with interest!

I found this once or twice with my DS, my Mum pointed out that he was tilted a bit so his head was lower than his feet! He hasn't done it since I corrected the position.
Not sure if that's the problem in your case, but an easy fix if it is:).

My husband is an audiologist and he has come across very rare cases of undiagnosed cleft palate. Something to keep in the back of your mind if simpler suggestions don't fix it.

Snap hatters! I had the same with ds1 feeding in the rugby ball position. I think I had too many cushions or the arm of the chair was too high but I couldn't see from where I was sitting that his head was lower than his body!

Check for a cleft palate (they are not always compete so could just be affecting her on the one side) my DS cleft was not picked up until he was three days. (please pm me if you want any more information, but dont worry because a cleft is nothing that cant be fixed)

She's 5 months and went though all the standard baby checks, would a cleft not have been picked up then?

(I have a good friend with a repaired cleft, so I know it's nothing to panic about, though hers is re-opening at ~30 years old)

I'll check her positioning, to see if her head is too low.

Thank you!
