did your milk dry up and when did it happen?

I am 16 weeks and just wondering what to expect really!

TIA Smile

no, DS was 19ish months when I got pregnant, I fed him every morning and night (unless he was staying with GPs) and never got any indication my milk supply changed
TBH it barely changed when I had DD too - no "milk coming in" feeling

StealthPolarBear · 29/01/2011 22:00

congratulations btw :o

WoTmania · 29/01/2011 22:01

both times my milk dried up around 16-17 weeks. I found nursing very uncomfortable at this point and DS1 stopped but DS2 carrie don (DD is 23months and DS2 is still occasionally nursing) and it got better at around 24 weeks when the colostrum came back.
If you are considering nursing through pregnancy/tandem nursing I would reccomend 'Adventures in Tandem Nursing' by Hilary Flower.

Mine dried up around 18 weeks. DS1 was 4 at the time and said there was no milk at all, so I am quite prepared to believe him.

I thought he would just stop nursing, but no, he just carried on even though there was no milk!

Not sure exactly when the colostrum came in. Around 6 weeks later maybe? Can't remember!

Thanks v. much!

Read 'Adventures in Tandem Nursing' last year while thinking about trying for no.2. Ds is allergic to cows milk but also is very attached to bf-ing so I knew I wouldn't be stopping any time soon! I will have another sit down with it.

I think I've been quite lucky so far as it hasn't been too painful (touch wood)and milk still appears to be just the same.

Cor 16/17/18 weeks is earlier than I imagined - for some reason I had in mind something like 25 - 30 weeks.
Just wondering now if I need to get ds some kind of suppliment if he's not going to be getting any milk from any where else.

37 weeks pregnant and still BF DD- beware, toddler colostrum poo, good god. Shock

hellymelly · 29/01/2011 23:10

I fed until about 38 weeks-may have been a slight change in my supply at the beginning, because DD was feeding a lot then,so possibly not getting as much as she was used to.Other than that no probs.

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/01/2011 13:37

stottie - my ds1 was milk intolerant and I didn't give him any supplement when I was expexting ds2. Do you use oat milk with calcium when cooking anyway?

GruffaloMama · 30/01/2011 20:20

Stottie - congrats. I'm 16 weeks pg with DC2. DS self-weaned three weeks ago - he started saying 'all gone' much quicker than normal and eventually just stopped. There still is some milk there but I've not felt 'full' despite a pretty much immediate stop (he's asked for and had two feeds in the last fortnight). It could be my milk drying up or him just growing out of it (2.3yo).

stottiecake · 30/01/2011 21:45

hello again!

Thanks all for responding Smile
Thanks for the warning EauRouge - yikes!!!
CantSleep - yes we do use Oatly for cereals - I was forgetting that is fortified.
Gruffalo - congrats to you too! Dh has commented that he thinks ds (2.2yo) is not asking as much. I wonder if he will also just stop?

I tried to express a little today after ds had had a quick feed - just to see if all was well and there definitely appears to be less milk (pin pricks appearing rather than squirts!!!) hmm.

LOL EauRogue. I was not looking forward to the older nursling colostrum poo. And then ds1 didn't have any side effects at all.

I don't know why. Perhaps cos he was a strapping 4yo rather than a toddler.
