Ds 1 is 6 days old. I am in agony with sore nipples. I have realized from the jack Newman website that my matchbox completely wrong. If I fix it and then continue feeding through the pain barrier will the soreness go away? Or will they be sore as long as I keep feeding? I am just crying constantly as I am so determined to keep going with this, buti feel I have ruined it already. Please help.

Get as much of the breast in the babys mouth as possible & it should be ok. Use Lansinoh cream to help sore nipples heal. Bf is a bit like putting on a new shoe - once you fixed the reason for the soreness it will be fine.

Hi, don't want to leave you unanswered but I think you need to get hold of someone in RL to check your latch asap.

I found bf more pain than pleasure for the first six-ish weeks but it suddenly then got a lot better.

I personally expressed and bottle fed when I was having a particularly bad day but DS was bottle fed for the first 3 weeks due to tongue tie so that might not work for you.

Good luck, and congratulations!

Moules - you need real life help, I agree.

When the baby is positioned well, the pain is lessened, for sure.

But things sounds bad enough for you not to have to work this out for yourself....call the midwife and ask for a visit, but do it now in case you hit the weekend with less staff.

I found the pain almost unbearable at the beginning of a feed, but once we got going it got better. And after a couple of weeks the latch-on pain faded.

If you don't have someone who can check your technique, I found YouTube tutorial videos fairly helpful.

And don't be afraid to disengage and try again if he's not on quite right. Just remember to break the suction first (ouch!).

Hope it gets better for you Smile.
