changing formula brand...

My 5 week old DS is formula fed and is on Aptamil. He appears to be struggling with tummy ache and farts and just wondered if it could be the brand of formula, whether its worth trying a different brand to see if it is easier for him? My DTD's were changed in scbu when they were born from SMA to C&G with no ill effects.

Can you overfeed a baby? He has 6x 6oz bottles a day but rarely finishes them all, probably takes 5oz and 4oz in the night.

His worst time of day is after the school run between 4pm and 6.30 when he screams and can't be pacified, which obviously is frustrating as I try and get DTD's dinner ready. Is this colic??

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated....

Congrats on your DS.

I find many babies have a fussy and unsettled time of day and my DS was between 6 and 10pm every evening until about 12 weeks.

Most formulas are pretty similar in make up but certainly some babies do seem more comfortable on some than on others.

I used C+G with DS although the make up of their formula has changed in the last few years. C+G state that their formula with it's "pre and pro-biotics equals a more comfortable baby". Other people say that this is crap and certainly the research seems to suggest thast this is indeed the case Grin. I have seen Mums swear by it though (am a HV)and swapping formula to see if another one suits better is okay.
In short it does no harm in swapping a formula over to see if it makes a difference - you'll probably need to give the new formual at least a week though.

Good luck.

It won't hurt to swap formula to see if one suits him better. Mine was always happy on Nuture and Hipp. I tended to use Hipp for travelling as it comes in single serving sachets, and Nurture at home.

You can overfeed a bottle fed baby. Tat seems like quite a lot to offer a 5 wo tbh. See here
