breastfeeding and thrush

I am currently breastfeeding my six week old son and he has recently been diagnosed with a "low grade fungal infection" ie thrush. I have oral gel and cream for his bottom but the thrush makes him really windy and fretful. My first son had it too and with him I had it aswell (v painful!) but this time round I don't seem to have it. Creams don't see to be working. Read somewhere that sugar in the diet can cause it - my diet is not that sugary (honest!) - does any one else have experience of this and has anyone found anything helpful?

Thanks for any advice!

You need to treat yourself too even if you don't have symptoms - otherwise you'll just be passing it back to him.

What creams do you have? When ds had it the daktarin cream didn't clear up his nappy rash, we needed canestan HC cream (has hydrocortisone in it too). Daktarin gel for his mouth and canestan for my nipples.

Plus you need to be really scrupulous about hygiene - hot wash nappies/flannels/muslins/bras/breastpads, sterilise dummies and teats etc.
