Very gurgly tummy in EBF baby

DD (12 wks) has a very gurgly tummy and is seeming more irritable than usual today (but sleeping now :) ). I had a small beer last night. Could this be my fault? or is it normal in BF baby. I've never noticed it this loud before. Have tried burping her but nothing coming up and it seems to be lower down in her guts anyway. Any suggestions please

Hi Kimberlina I'm afraid I don't have anything of much use to add for you but would be interested in what others have to say on this as my baby has a very gurgly tummy constantly and is often in a lot of pain - have tried all the 'usual' colic remedies and just starting some cranial osteopathy.

Think the beer could just be co-incidence. Don't worry too much about it. If she is uncomfortable you could always burp her, do some massage on her tummy, let her have some no nappy time and give her a bath. All those things should help relieve any wind.

Sometimes I notice DD's tummy seems to be gurgling alot more than usual. I reckon at that point, it has to come out the other end.
I'm not convinced what you eat has an effect. It's just the same as when we have a rumbly digestive system at times!

It irks me when family hear or feel gurgles coming from my DD and try to wind her. It's just such a waste of time. The burps she emits when she sits up after a feed are all that's needed in my opinion! Jiggling, patting and rubbing just seem so unnecessary. Um didn't mean to rant!

One beer is lovely and nutritious! Full of vitamins and minerals! [Smile]

Lynz just gave the winding advice if the baby was uncomfortable. Obviously if the baby is fine there is nothing to worry about.

I wasn't having a go, sorry if you thought i was as your advice sounds great!

Was thinking of friends and family who insist on trying to wind DD when she is crying when all she needs is a boob!

Back on the subject though, i don't think gurgly sounds are anything to worry about. I have often wondered if nappies and clothes with waist bands cause trapped wind. So time with the nappy off might help as jilted mentioned!

No worries Lynz completely understand. Understand too over people wanting to wind your baby when they just need the boob. The problem I had was that virtually everyone I knew had ff.

if i have a tight waistband, i get terrible tummy ache...

i used to massage DS's tummy and legs and quite a few times he let off a big old fart lol and poses www.itsybitsyyoga.com/babyyogaslideshow8.htm (nappy off even better) - if you think about it, they can't move very much so we have to move for them - if we have tummy ache we can go for a walk or lie in different positions to help the wind move...

RubyBuckleberry · 24/01/2011 12:35

sorry don't know what happened there!
