Sore boobs

Hi,

I have one really sore boob and very sore nipple with blisters and was wandering if anyone has any advice to help. I have read lots of things and wandered if expressing from that side for a few days would help it to heal and in doing so would mean that there is enough milk to feed her being produced from the other side.
Also she has a feeding frenzy at some point during the day and night and feeds constantly for a considerable amount of hours! When this happens I am worried that one breast won't be able to keep up with the demand and will end up sore too. Has anyone got any thoughts and advice they could share?

Thanks
xx

SEJames if you are in pain and have blisters you need some RL help straightaway. Are there any Bfing Counsellors local to you or have you called one of the helplines yet?

I have been along to a group every week now since she was born (3 weeks) and although each time I go we work together and latch right I still have a blister that won't heal. I'm not sure whether she is latching properly or not when I'm at hme because it still stings when she first starts feeding and then I at different points whilst she is feeding and also my breast get hot, painful and itchy during feeding and then when waiting for the next feed I can feel a lump forming and it continues to hurt.

You poor thing. Have they given you the number of someone to ring when they aren't open? If not, I'd give one of the helplines a call.

Does this sound like what you've got?

Looking at the picture I don't think so it is actually scabbed over and doesn't look like the picture really but the remedy might be worth a go, thank you.

Glad you've found it useful, I'd still recommend giving one of the helplines a call though ABM, La Leche League or NCT.

A lump could be a blocked duct.

Do remember you could give baby the milk you express - in a cup, syringe or by supplementer if you don't want to introduce bottles. That way you're not reliant on 1 breast.

Or maybe try a nipple shield temporarily?
