What else do you do whilst breastfeeding?!

Obviously quite alot of bonding and coo-ing, but will I affect my DS's intelligence if I listen to podcasts at the same time?!
So far have been reading e books at night feeds and just staring lovingly and chatting to him in the day- but fancy something else... bad mummy?!

Er... I watch TV. Or eat cake and chat to friends depending on where we are.

NoTeaForMe · 20/01/2011 08:39

I watch tv, surf the Internet that kind of thing. Unless I'm with friends obviously then we talk!!

How old is your baby?

HettyAmaretti · 20/01/2011 08:40

Anything I felt like, when feeding. No harm in it at all.

But, TBH you'd be best feeding laying down at night so you can get some rest. There really is no need to get out of bed at all.

Athrawes · 20/01/2011 08:56

Now I do nothing at all except look at him sideways but not in a very attentive way because that distracts him, as does TV, the itouch, mobile etc. If I smile at him lovingly he grins back and unlatches - sweet eh!
But before, during the long feeds, when he was just a wee sprat and not a big boy of 6mo with chubby knees, I MN'd a lot, listened to podcasts, ate my dinner (cover child with a tea towel), texted friends, phoned folk. I reckon so long as you do the loving adoring looking during the day you are allowed a modicum of me-time to listen to The Archers in the evening.

greeneone12 · 20/01/2011 10:00

I can't even look dd in the she because of the angle so your doing better than me!

Bumperlicious · 20/01/2011 10:17

Mumsnet on my iPhone, watch tv or iplayer, radio, read. Nightfeeds I now do laying down & dozing.

Bumperlicious · 20/01/2011 10:18

Do all these things while you can because there will probably come a time (around 5 or 6 months) where you will no longer be 'allowed' to do anything other than stare into space!

Cassandra63 · 20/01/2011 10:19

I used to sleep as much as was possible unless I was watching TV. It was always a good excuse for putting my feet up

togarama · 20/01/2011 10:50

Anything within reason.

crikeybadger · 20/01/2011 11:23

My pelvic floor exercises Wink

OhNoNotTheHoneyBabies · 20/01/2011 11:25

One of the perks of still BF DS (21mo) is that I get the chance to read!! It's the only time of the day when he's actually quiet and still, so I make the most of it! Grin

Luckily he's past the phase when he won't let you do anything except feed. The only problem nowadays is his 'interesting' BF positions...Hmm

IrritaGirl · 20/01/2011 11:32

I didn't realise they go through a phase of not letting you do anything but feed! I usually read book or watch tv so might explain why my DS (just coming up for 4 m) often seems to get angry/frustrated during day feeds now?!

ethelina · 20/01/2011 11:36

I've been known to manage a wee when Boy was smaller Blush. He's too big now with chubby knees like the poster further up.

In all honesty, I look upon feeding time at home with a sigh of relief that I can come on here and other places without feeling guilty for ingnoring my son.

knitty · 20/01/2011 11:36

Listen to audiobooks, I have a subscription to Audible to keep me supplied.

PaisleyLeaf · 20/01/2011 11:39

I so missed how much time I had for reading when I stopped BFing.

I can't read a book anymore as dd grabs it, but I can watch tv or read the internet (MN). Yesterday due to sleeping in I had to breastfeed and eat porridge at the same time which was tricky as dd is now 1 and quite long.

HermyaLovesLysander · 20/01/2011 13:29

I surf the tinterweb, I've also eaten whilst BF but forget to cover DS with a teatowel. Suffice it to say he didn't get a bit of food on him. Blush

LooL00 · 20/01/2011 13:41

Same as crikey , pelvic floor exercises.

Porcelain · 20/01/2011 13:51

Read
Internet, forums, shopping, banking..
Eat or drink
Play XBox Blush
Write letters, business planning etc
Make phone calls (he's quiet..)
Sing to him
When he was smaller wandered around the shops with him in a sling, he's too tall now though, I need a new feeding carry. Have done the same cooking tea.
