NUK advice - sizing

Have emailed the NUK UK customer service but got nothing back. Help please!

How do you know what size teat to get for a newborn (2.5 weeks old): I'm planning to continue EBF but need to be able to give one expressed feed per day. I understand I need the size one, but then it says 'small' or 'medium' and then when you go to size 2, you have to choosed between small, medium and large. Any ideas? If the size 1 or 2 is about teat size, what are the other sizes relevant to? Sorry if this is a stupid question, am a bit sleep-deprived!

Also - just in case anyone has an opinion - are the NUK teats really as good as they say because they are shaped like the real thing etc etc?

Hi MacMomo, not a silly question at all, can't tell you about size for a newborn as I didn't use a bottle for a few months. But I probably started about 7 months and went for the smallest appropriate size. My thinking was smaller, they can cope with and will manage easily whereas too big may cause problems and discomfort if you know what I mean.Confused
In terms of the shape etc, thats why I got this make as a lot of research (mainly in the US) about the shape of this teat, all positive. All I can say is that my DDs have good shape teeth and never had colic/hiccups or any of the other 'side effects' sometimes associated with bottle feeding. Hope this helps Smile

Hi, yes it is a bit confusing!

So for each age range there are three sizes (s, m, l) which relate to the size of hole. Small is for breastmilk, medium is for formula, large is for thicker liquid.

I found small too small despite giving ebm, so I moved up to medium. When he was prescribed infant gaviscon for reflux I moved to large - there is a big jump from medium to large.

Starting with small is your best chance to avoid a bottle preference developing, as the flow will be slow, but move up to medium if your baby gets too frustrated. BTW, I think the bottles come with medium size 1 teats as standard, I got my teats from amazon.
