Hipp Organic Follow On Milk - bad batch?

Hello

This is my first time posting so forgive me if my etiquette is off.

Essentially I wanted to know if anyone using Hipp Organic Follow On powder milk has experienced any brown lumps in it. This would be in the past couple of weeks. You see I have this week. In two different boxes. My DS has had a tummy upset this week and I am worried it might be connected. I bought another box from another batch (the first two were the same batch) and it was fine.

Just to be clear, the milk had little brown lumps floating in the froth. On touching the lumps they disolved.

I have reported it to Hipp and to the supermarket I bought it from but am really worried. I hope it is just the milk I have bought but wondered if anyone else has experienced this in order to add weight to my request that Hipp recall this batch.

Thanks

Welcome to mumsnet!

No experience I'm afraid, just bumping for you.

Currently using this milk, but haven't seen anything myself.

sometimes when you mix the milk up with really hot water it clumps like that, making small slightly brown lumps which as you describe, then dissolve if you poke them.

i always thought they looked a bit like brown rice.

if that is what they are, it is normal and nothing to worry about. Just let the water cool for 5 minutes longer before you make the milk up or stir it before you put the lid on.

Thanks for responding. Maybe i had got slack with waiting for it to cool sufficiently. I still have it so will do a little experiment!

Hello!

Hipp got back to me and explainef there had been a change in the production process when adding minerals. This had caused the minerals to not dissolve as easily. So good news in that the milk is fine. They are aware of the batches with this problem that are on the shelf so if you're not sure give them a call. Batches due to come out will have stickers on advising customers that it is safe and simply requires extra mixing.

Credit to hipp as they have sent replacement boxes of milk, an apology letter (also thanking me for reporting ut) and some vouchers. My faith in them is restored.

careful now, you cant be praising an evil formula company Grin. You will get yourself banned with that kind of crazy talk Wink

Seriously though, glad you got it sorted (and some freebies for your efforts).
