Mastitis or flu (do you think)?

Feel like a fool for not going to the Doctor today.

Anyway,

Tuesday night - fever and terrible aches.

Wednesday - fine.

Thursday - truly awful aches and pains everywhere.

Today - fine.

Tonight - achey again.

I've generally been unwell (cough, cold symptons) for a few weeks but nothing this bad.

I've been taking Ibrufen and paracetemol and massaging breasts whilst feeding.

Last time I had Mastitis I took anti-bios straight away and symptoms disappeared.

I guess what I'm asking is do the symptoms of Mastitis come and go like that?

Have to go for half an hour but I'll be back.

yama - sorry to ask the bleeding obvious but what about the boobs, how do they feel?

Left side a bit lumpy underneath. I keep massaging it when ds feeds. A little pain but not agony. No redness.

Last time it was the right side and I could see the redness where it was hard.

Thanks for replying.

I think temp can go up and down with mastitis. I had very high (up to 104), rapidly fluctuating temperature, felt fluey, and blood pressure dropped so low I couldn't stand up. It didn't go away until I had antibiotics. Breast was not particularly red but I had pain when I tried to lift my arm on the side that was plugged.

Woke up at 6.15 to feed ds and felt fine until about 7am and have been achey and shivery and generally feeling terrible since.

Think I'll go to the Doctor on Monday regarless of how I am feeling.

Phone the out of hours dr, sounds like you might need anti-b's. I had no redness at all, and the odd lump but they ached lots and i had awful headache, felt really tired, no energy, one min i'd be really hot the next i'd be shivering - i phoned nhs direct who got the out of hours dr to phone me and gave me anti-b's.

Also forgot to add, they say feed you ds with their chin facing where the lump is..so if you had a lump towards your arm pit then hold them in the rugby ball position as it helps drain.

Thanks Pinkyp. I saw an out of hours doctor who it was more likely a strong viral infection.

Said I was to rest. I'll try my best but the boy needs fed (a lot).
