Has anyone else fed a baby leaning over the supermarket trolley?

I was in Sainsbury's earlier and I saw a woman pushing her trolley around with a boob dangling over and a baby of about 5/6 months sitting up in a trolley seat trying to crane it's neck and get a decent feed. Surely it would be easier and make more sense to just take the baby out of the trolley and feed it? I have walked around shops feeding DS before but I would always be holding him either in a sling or in my arms.

LOL. She sounds like a mumsnetter....

HeadsUp · 13/01/2011 23:19

How do you spel dajavu?

YankNCock · 13/01/2011 23:23

Yes, but it was Tesco. We can't afford Sainsburys. Grin

In my defense, I was waiting for DH to come out of the changing room and DS was about 12 months and freaking out. He's too heavy to hold in my arms and feed, so I leant over and gave him a quick feed, trying to be sort of inconspicious hiding by their really ugly jeans.

I am in awe that this lady could push and feed at the same time.

Deflatedballoonbelly · 13/01/2011 23:24

I will do anything to get the bastard big shop done...

FunnysInTheGarden · 13/01/2011 23:26

That is just odd and actually rather akin to pushing a baby around with a bottle shoved in it's mouth, which AFAIK is totally frowned upon here on MN

madwomanintheattic · 13/01/2011 23:30

god, no. i'm too short. i always had to abandon the stuffed trolley and hoik the baby out to go and find a bench. at least with ds i did anyway, he weighed a ton. i'd wander round at home feeding, or open the door or whatever, but i'd never have managed to get the shop done...

online shopping. then you can have mn open at the same type. much easier to type one-handed than push a trolley.

KittyFoyle · 13/01/2011 23:32

Only with a bottle - I was shite at breastfeeding and certainly never managed it without pillows and careful positioning.

YankNCock · 13/01/2011 23:33

Funny, good thing I was standing still then!

Thinking about it, I am less awed and more confused...how did she manage to push at the exact speed so as not to stretch her nipples halfway down the bread aisle? I find it really painful if feeding DS and he moves his head away too quickly, never mind sailing away from me in a shopping trolley Confused

Deja Vu Wink

dessen · 13/01/2011 23:35

Multitasking! - at least her little one wasn't just shouting.

nappyaddict · 13/01/2011 23:36

It looked really awkward. I could maybe imagine doing it in a discreet corner and standing still but it just looked so uncomfortable for both the mother and the child.

Thanks solo

Not been on here for over a year and I remember an almost identical OP

YankNCock · 13/01/2011 23:38

I had to lean over and sort of stick my arse out, I cannot imagine walking around like that!

Thankfully we've had no repeat performances, I mostly shop online.

nappyaddict · 13/01/2011 23:38

HeadsUp I wonder if it's the same woman!

Rindercella · 13/01/2011 23:39

Yep, deja vu here too.

ShowOfHands · 13/01/2011 23:40

I did it when dd was about 8 months and had been really poorly. Constant feeding and I had cabin fever. She was whinging in the trolley, too big for me to carry and feed her, I was desperate for a drink and some food (house empty due to aforementioned illness/cabin fever). I had an enormous winter coat on and dd was sitting up in the trolley. Even dh didn't notice when he came back from fetching something. Looked like she was just leaning into me with my coat falling either side of her.

nappyaddict · 13/01/2011 23:45

Were you walking around as well SOH? Were you doing the bum sticky out thing Grin

OP posts:
ShowOfHands · 13/01/2011 23:54

We were walking slowly up and down the aisles yes. I'm not aware of sticking out my bottom. Grin

organiccarrotcake · 14/01/2011 08:10

Respect Grin. Sounds pretty uncomfortable but I am sure that she wouldn't have done it unless there was a good reason (usually of the got no choice type).

I've fed DS2 in his sling while going round Sainsburys plenty of times and thought I was being discreet until one time an assistant ran over and helped me to unpack the trolley one time, so maybe I wasn't! Blush.

solo · 14/01/2011 09:38

Blimey organic, I thought I was about to read that you got an earful of abuse from said assistant.

I used to carry mine in my arms around shops and feed. Stopped doing it when they got too nosy and I ended up with a bared bosom. Don't think I'd have been happy hanging over a trolley to do it though.

DanceInTheDark · 14/01/2011 09:40

Was it you that started this thread not so long ago NA?

nappyaddict · 14/01/2011 09:51

No, never seen another thread like it. I think my shock was that it was so blatent and not discreet but also looked uncomfortable. Hands up to her though. SOH said she did it with a big coat on, but this woman had just got a a long sleeved tshirt on.

I think the thread was a couple of years ago, but by the way the weeks turn into months these days, it feels like it was a recent thread.

DanceInTheDark · 14/01/2011 10:07
