Cooled boiled water?

Sorry-not really feeding-related, but didn't know where to put this to get quick answer!
DD (16weeks) has a horrible cough, and gp said to give her a few sips of cooled boiled water if she's in the middle of a coughing fit, to help clear the phlegm.
I forgot to ask him though - should this be in a bottle? And if so should it be sterilised? And how long can it sit around for? I can't make up bottles every few hours just on the off-chance of a coughing fit - so can I have one bottle lying around for a day or so? Or 9in fridge?
Sorry if these are obvious ones!! Thanks!

I would give it in a bottle that has been sterilised. I gave a bit of cooled boiled water when I thought dd was constipated and I just made one up fresh in the morning and used it occasionally that day, throwing it away at the end of the day. If you need one overnight too I think probably a fresh one for nighttime as well. Not for a particular scientific reason that I know of, just that if I wanted a glass of water I wouldn't want a stale one poured out hours and hours ago. HTH
