Can mixed feeding exacerbate reflux?

Just wondering really - at the moment Ds2 is vomming up perhaps a whole feed every 3 and is v unsettled in between. DS1 had reflux and all the signs are there Sad.
I'm alternating giving expressed milk in a bottle with formula (going to try the thicker stuff to see if it makes a difference) but wondered if the combination of BM and formula could be just confusing and upsetting his stomach still further?
Christ I'm over these feeding boards like a rash atm Blush

It could be an intolerance to cows milk? When I gave DS formula at 6 months, he did the same. He also has reflux. The cows milk would trigger reflux episodes. So I ditched it quite quickly.

With ds1 exactly the same as Iggly describes happened. I was told that about 40% of babies with reflux have CMP intolerance so not particularly surprising if it was that.

Would that mean it would be best to try and stick to BM? I had this conundrum when DS1 was around the same age, had him tested for CMP allergy and was negative, but they did stick him on a bunch of reflux meds that I would v much like to avoid if poss this time round.
Iggly how did you manage the reflux at 6months? Did you just ditch the formula or go on a special one?

If your DS is CMP intollerant/allergic, then you will also need to exclude all dairy and soya (can trigger a similar reaction) from your diet. I was told that it woudl take 4 weeks for everything to clear out of my system. Has he got diarrhoea as well? DD has very severe cows milk allergy and has been prescribed neocate formula - completely synthetic. Less severe cases can be OK on Nutramigen formula, where the cows milk has been so thoroughly processed and broken down that it's OK for a lot of children. If you are worried, press for a referral to a paediatrician. Good luck and hope things get better very soon.

spot at 6 months DS was on ranitidine - didn't stop vomiting but did neutralise the acid. I gave up dairy and soya as he'd react through BM too. I'm still BF at 15 months. Didn't bother with formula as GP said he'd probably not take it - tastes foul apparently!

The vomiting did slow down and stopped quite soon after 6 months.

To manage it, I had to be careful weaning - his reactions aren't too severe. It's worse with yoghurt and milk, less so with cheese.

I gave him expressed milk or oat milk with his cereal. Now he has oat milk with 3 BF a day on top. Dietician said to get him used to oat milk but use stuff which is calcium fortified. Also other calcium rich food like sardines, green veg etc.

I'm hoping he'll grow out of it by 2!
