Which nipple shield?

DD 8 days old, have had excruciating pain due to incorrect latch in early days, one nipple damaged. Have seen a bf counsellor who confirmed I'm now doing it correctly. However, the first two minutes are still simPly unbearable. I just can't so another day on the sore one. The other one not producing enough just yet to complete one feed.

I think I need to use a shield on the sore one for a day or maybe two days to give it time to heal a bit. I will continue with the less sore one normally to minimise the negative impact on her technique. I would be grateful for advice on which brand and how I work out what size to get? Many thanks

I like my medela contact Shields. Medium is the standard size so unless your nipples are especially small or large I'd just get medium.

I only use them for the occasional feed to give me a break when sore and haven't had issues

I think you need to measure the base of your nipple. Iirc medela have guidelines. Good luck. I've been using shields (small avents) for nine weeks now and no problems.

i use mam size 2, ordered off the mam internet site. avent ones (standard size) are the ones i've seen most often in shops(tesco, mothercare). I did use these with DS1, but then ordered some mam ones as they were cheaper, and for some reason he preferred them. I fed him using them for 17 months. Now using them with DTs at 11 weeks and counting - did try them with an avent, but they didn't latch as well for some reason, don't know why. Hope you find some you like

Thanks for the advice on types and sizes. Hearing that youve been successful for so long with them makes me feel better about using them (I keep getting told they're a bad thing but I just carry on without). Thanks.
