BF and Poland's Syndrome

Does anyone out there have any experience of ths?

Have been in touch with LLL before Christmas but they have not got back to me yet. Baby is due in seven weeks and I'm desperate to BF but starting to panic that it may not be possible.

Poland Syndrome, to save anyone else googling!

This page might be of use, OP.

This is the birth defects page that doesn't link properly on the above page.

I would say, going on only what I have just read, and knowing nothing else, that you should be fine. It might be worth discussing with the midwives whilst in labour (the early bit!) about your concern, and with the midwife who is doing your care. You can also get special feeding assistants that could be worth looking at.

Have you tried LLL again, or the BFN?

Will keep looking, see if I can fine some info.

Reallywant know absolutely nothing about it sorry, but have you tried to find out if the hospital has a Lactation Consultant or Infant Feeding Co-ordinator you could talk to.

Sorry to that the LLL haven't got back to you. Are there any Bfing Counsellors local to you or have you tried one of the other Bfing Helplines?

Hope it all goes well for you. Keep on posting and let us know how you are getting on Smile

Am currently EBF 5 week old DC3 with Poland's Syndrome and he's put on 8 oz a week for the last 3 weeks. So it is possible. But it depends on exactly how many milk ducts you have in each breast. I am exclusively feeding from one side and expressing from the other side to store in freezer. Have managed to feed from smaller side, but I don't produce enough milk that side to make feeding from it worthwhile. I agree that it's worth getting a midwife or lactation consultant at the hospital on board before birth. Very few people have come across it and I feel I might have been more successful with dc1 and 2 if I'd had more support. I'd be more than happy to chat if someone can tell me how I can give you my contact details without broadcasting them to the world.

Thank you so much for your replies.

I have a session with the hospital breastfeeding advisor next Friday and an NCT breastfeeding advisor on Tuesday. They are group sessions so most likely I will follow up with each of them one-to-one afterwards.

It seems to be such a rare issue that so far the midwives at hospital haven't really known what to say to me.

I am 35 years old with Poland's syndrome on my left side. I had 3 successful tries at nursing. My left didn't produce nearly as much. But, everything worked well for us. Good luck don't get frustrated, you can do it.

Kmack this is a pretty old thread. The LO will be 9 years old 🙂
