Could this be silent reflux?

I know I have to see a Dr for the answer, but just wanted opinion from those with experience of it.

My 17 week old DD has never been a great feed (FF since 3 weeks), rarely eats the minimum for her weight, often a battle to get her to feed to be honest. Over the past 3 weeks she has been straining a lot, but not in a constipated way, in a discomfort, almost like trapped wind way. She is producing more wind than normal, but even after that can seem really uncomfortable and it can bother her at random times (before feeding, during feeding and any time after). When she is in this discomfort her backs goes deadly straight as do her arms and legs.

She is never sick, but does sometimes cough a little at the start of a feed, as if it went down the wrong way. Sometimes she takes a full bottle in one go and then other times she will start to get upset as soon as it goes near her.

I have seen the Dr once about it who was very dissmissive and said it was colic. Which I don't think it is.

Any advice would be helpful.

thanks

maybe. could also be cow's milk allergy or intolerance?? press for a referral to a paediatrician - if you can have a look to see if there is anyone at your local hospital who is specialist in paediatric gastroenterology, then you can give the name of the doctor you wish to be referred to. usually, i am all for tellign the truth when it comes to medical matters. but if you have a reluctant/dismissive gp (any chance you can see a different one at your practice?) and you want a referral then maybe play it up a bit to get him/her to take you more seriously? good luck - it's miserable.

Thanks, certainly if I have to take her back to the Dr, I am asking for someone different.

hi there
my daughter seemed to find BF v hard from about 9 or 10 weeks. BF counsellors and midwife/ HV werent espec helpful, but i found it very upsetting and quite traumatic espec as she wouldnt take a bottle so i was scared about her intake.

to cut a long story short (ish) - saw a private bf Counsellor- she immediately sauggested private refulx. GP referred to paediatrician and omeprazole was alomost a miralce. she wasnt ever a really great feeder, but the change with medication was very noticeable. No one else thought of reflux because she didnt really vomit.

Good luck.
ps apologies for spelling am in rush

My daughter had reflu x. She was five weeks when I realised that her feeding was just not right. If she wasn't projectile vomiting, she was constantly whinging after every feed, as if she was in great discomfort, even after burping. Then there was the nightmare of feeding every hour because she couldn't digest more than an ounce or two at every feed - basically awful nightmare. My first doc was a bitch - sorry, but looking back on it she treated me like I was just a hyper neurotic first-time mum. I changed doctor as soon as I left her surgery and I'm so glad I did.

My daughter was started on Zantac and domperidone and it took a few weeks to see any difference, but my god it day and night. She's 19 weeks now an she still doesn't have a huge appetite, but at least she's not going through the agony of digesting like before.
I'd do a bit of research on silent reflux and get down all the symptoms that point to her having reflux then go to your new doctor and tell him/her that you want to try the drugs. Basically that's the only way to do it. Got to go got a daughter who needs feeding. Good Luck!
