DS does not take a bottle, he has in the past, so knows how to use, but just won't do it. He is now 13 months and I am starting the process of weaning off breastfeeding, so I want to introduce taking milk from another source as he will need milk before bed when I stop feeding (won't he?).

No point persevering with the bottle now he is over 1, and he is fine with a sippy cup for water, but only really use the old basic tommy tippee ones, although also have a non-drip one.

What would you ladies recommend/what do you give you 1+ babies to drink their milk from, ideally with handles as he does like to hold it himself. He also likes DDs one with the flexi tube thing at the top, but it is too big for him to pick up...

I use the basic tommee tippee ones for milk and water. Also use supermarket own brand free-flow ones (as long as listed as no BPA).

She does love an open cup with a straw, although this can get messy Grin.

Prob with the basic tommy tippee is he likes to tip upside down to watch the drips. He loves watching drips Grin.

Surprisingly he can almost use a straw! took DD much longer. Maybe I could get a cup with built in straw for him, would sort out the issue of not being able to pick it up easily?

I also use the tommee tippee free flow ones for DD. Make sure whatever you get is free flow and not valved otherwise you risk damaging his teeth.

Doidy cups are also highly spoken off and are recommended by HVs. I haven't tried one yet but our HVs provide one free cup for every child over 4 months so I'm going to ask for one on our next visit. Do your HVs offer the same?

AH Doidy cups that the one i was trying to remember the name of! I might have a look at those ones too.

So, I should just give tommee tippee sippy cup as I do with water? did not consider the teeth thing Blush having not needed to consider milk in this way yet! and he only has water, not juice so not been an issue so far! thanks for reminding me!

Yes, it is messy though isn't it. I'm trying to teach DD (6 months) to use her cup and she always needs a change of top afterwards because its less fun to drink then shake everywhere :)

Actually, just looked at the doidy cup and it does look perfect, DS is desperate to drink from an open cup. The other day on new years eve, he tried grabbing the plastic cup that I had some wine in, the plastic cup a friend had some beer in and then kept pointing to the tap! so i filled one up with water for him and he grabbed it like he was in great need! So I have just ordered one on amazon, only £3.30 in red with free postage, lets see how that goes and in the meantime will continue with the tommy tippee one. If he is going to be messy, lets make it properly messy eh? Wink ]grin]

Grin Embrace the mess.

i am to some extent used to it, as the kitchen wall has been decorated with food. Luckily, due a damp issue, it has been stripped back in prep for replastering Grin, we shall wait a while before painting i suspect. DD made most of her mess in the summer so was naked apart from nappy and went straight in the bath after, it is just a bit too cold for DS to do that!
