Feeding going well. Ruby happy, gaining weight, wet nappies etc all happy but she won't settle at night or anywhere unless held (by me) or latched on. So to go to bed I have to latch her on and then sleep but she's not feeding I'm sure it's for comfort.

2 nights ago I used a dummy to settle her so I could have a shower and so she didn't scream. She fell straight asleep. Still wakes for feeds and if she needs feeding she won't stand for the dummy for more than a minute

Will it effect my supply if I'm feeding every 3 to 4 hrs

God yeah use a dummy, have had two very sucky babies, lasted about 3 weeks with DS before giving a dummy, DD had one 2nd day. Grin
Absolutely no supply probs, fed DS till he was 2 and currently feeding 11 month old DD.
Used NUK dummies found them the best.

Go for it. Some babies are just really sucky and need the comfort of sucking to sleep. I didn't have any supply issues. If they want fed they spit the dummy out, if they just want comfort then the dummy gives it. In some places they are called soothers after all Smile

Every 3-4hrs is a long time for a baby that young to be going between feeds. Every couple of hours is usual. Different things work for different families, so using a dummy or not is a personal choice. If you do go for it then try to notice hunger cues (squirming, putting fist to mouth etc) and don't use the dummy to replace feeds.

My first child fed 2 hourly or more often, 2nd always went 4 hours between feeds, all different.

I think using a dummy with my DS1 saved breastfeeding for us. He went from a fretful baby who was permanently latched on, cried in his pram when out for a walk, took hours to settle at night and gained weight very slowly to a baby who slept in his pram, had sensible length feeds spaced out every three-four hours, settled much earlier at night and gained weight much more rapidly. I think my supply was better because he was taking a good amount every few hours and so that was what I produced instead of a continuous dribble. If a dummy works for you and gives you a bit of peace and 'me time' in the evening then it's definitly worth using one.
